Design Miami/ is the global forum for design. Each fair brings together the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators, and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce. Occurring alongside Art Basel in Miami, USA each December and Basel, Switzerland each June, the Design Miami/ fairs have become the premier venue for collecting, exhibiting, discussing, and creating collectible design.

This December, we are proud to launch our new Podium program, a selling exhibition concept that presents collectible design from both leading galleries and independent design studios, curated by Curatorial Director Aric Chen. The 2020 Podium theme is America(s), aimed at spotlighting and interrogating “American” identity—in all its permutations—through the juxtaposition of important works of design and craft. Plans for future Design Miami/ Podiums in new locations are already underway.

Alongside Podium, Design Miami/ 2020 features reformatted gallery booths and partner exhibition spaces, in an effort to support our community through the limitations imposed by COVID. The show returns for the first time to the venue of its inaugural edition—Miami’s historic Moore Building in the Miami Design District—and will take place over ten days to facilitate social distancing. The wellbeing of staff, exhibitors, and guests take top priority, so health and safety protocols have been developed in consultation with the University of Miami Health System.

Taking advantage of Design Miami’s recently launched Design Miami/ Shop, the fair will be more accessible than ever, with a vastly expanded online presence offering buying options and virtual content for the many collectors and fans around the world who are unable to visit the fair in-person this year.

Design Miami/ is more than a marketplace for design, where the world’s top galleries gather to present museum-quality exhibitions of twentieth and twenty-first century furniture, lighting, and objets d’art. Each Design Miami/ platform balances exclusive commercial opportunities with progressive cultural programming and content. By continuously expanding and enriching its offering, Design Miami/ seeks to not only satisfy the demand for a high-end design fair, but also to broaden awareness of modern and contemporary design, fuel the market for collectible design, and provide an exciting yet accessible destination for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
